5 ideas for celebrating Galentine’s Day with your Nature Girl Gang (& a FREE download!)

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, but one of my favorite days in February actually comes the day before- Galentine’s Day! Galentine’s Day was created by the character Leslie Knope in the show Parks and Recreation (my all-time favorite show because parks) and is all about celebrating your female friendships.

The idea of “sisterhood” has always meant so much to me. I grew up with 3 older sisters who have always been my “built-in best friends”. Even so, as I've gotten older I’ve learned that your “sisters” aren’t necessarily only the ones you were born with, but can also be the ones you find along the way. I feel so lucky that I’ve been able to spend my life arm in arm with gals that inspire, encourage, and support me.

I feel so lucky that I’ve been able to spend my life arm in arm with gals that inspire, encourage, and support me.

This is why I love Galentine’s Day so much. It’s so important to tell the people we love how special they are to us, and Galentine’s Day provides the perfect opportunity to do just that. This Galentine’s Day, take the time to let your best gals know you love and appreciate them! After all, as Leslie says “Uteruses before duderuses…Ovaries before brovaries.” ;)

Since Leslie Knope is a true Nature Girl, I thought it would be fun to create a list of 5 fun ideas for ways you can celebrate Galentine’s Day with a little “Nature Girl” spin on them!

P.S. make sure you read all the way to the end of the post and get your FREE Galentine’s Bingo download I created just for you and your Nature Girl Gang!

1. Try something new outdoors together

I can’t think of a better way to spend the day with your best gals than getting outside together. This Galentine’s Day celebrate your sisterhood by trying something new together! Have you been wanting to try out hiking? rock climbing? snowshoeing? Ask your gals to try it out with you! What better way to celebrate the day than by encouraging each other as you get outside of your comfort zone and try something new!

2. Shop small, shop local, shop slow

Whether it’s going out for a day of fun shopping with your gal pals or purchasing them a thoughtful gift try shopping slow, local, small, or all three! Don’t get me wrong I love strolling the aisles of Target (especially when accompanied by my sister Kimberly), but overconsumption can lead to big issues down the road when those items inevitably end up in a landfill for 100s of years. By shopping slow (i.e. only getting things you/they need or will truly use) and local you can help reduce this issue. And I know for a fact by shopping small you’ll make a small business owner's day (bonus points if you buy items from a women-owned business!)

3. Plan or dream up future adventures

If you’re on a tight budget this year celebrate by dreaming up future adventures! Create a bucket list of top places you want to go together. Or get creative and create a collage or vision board filled with pictures of adventures you want to go on together. If you have old magazines lying around reuse them to make your collage come to life. If you can’t celebrate with your besties in person, plan a FaceTime date! One of the best cures that I’ve found for missing someone who lives far away is to plan ahead for future fun times together.

3. Have an at-home brunch date (with waffles of course!)

Sure you could go to a super cute and boujie brunch spot and drop $$$ on frittatas and mimosas this Galentine’s Day, but hear me out on this one! Making brunch from scratch at home this year is totally the move. You won’t have to stand around forever waiting for a table and you have the ability to bond over making delicious breakfast food! This also gives you and your besties the opportunity to source your ingredients from a local grower or farmer giving you a fresher and more wholesome meal all while supporting your local economy and reducing your carbon footprint (did someone say win-win?!) P.S. don’t forget to add waffles aka the Leslie Knope staple to your menu!
